This Sunday, October 4th, the South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) will begin operation of bus service from Sunland Park, with 38 bus stops, to downtown El Paso. The downtown bus stop is located on the corner of 4th Avenue at Santa Fe Street, located across the street from the Bert Williams Downtown Santa Fe Transfer Center. Riders can board and get off the bus from this bus stop location.

The new route is the Yellow route, one of seven bus routes operated by the SCRTD in southern New Mexico. Sunland Park Mayor, Javier Perea stated “I am pleased that SCRTD has incorporated this route within the regional network of transit services that connects both Sunland Park and El Paso residents who wish to travel between these two communities.”

This bus route has been in service for over fifteen years and was formerly operated by SunMetro as the Route 83 Sunland Park. The route has provided convenient daily bus service to downtown El Paso from Sunland Park. The route operates seven days a week providing service Monday through Friday from 6am to 10pm and 7am to 9pm weekends.

SCRTD provides daily cleaning and disinfecting of frequent customer touch points such as handrails and seats and installation of Plexiglass shields on all buses to maintain a barrier between passengers and operators.

Per the New Mexico Governor’s Executive Order, all employees and bus riders must wear a mask when riding on SCRTD buses. To support this effort, the SCRTD is providing a face mask to riders that need one. Additionally, SCRTD has replaced cloth seats with vinyl to improve cleaning of our older buses.

SCRTD provides fixed-route transit service in Doña Ana, Otero, and Sierra Counties. Information about SCRTD routes, schedules, and fare can be found at the agency’s website, or by calling 575-323-1620.
