The South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) announced today that it has been awarded a highly competitive Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Low or No Emission Vehicle Program (Low-No) grant, securing federal funding to expand regional mobility, modernize its fleet, and advance clean transportation initiatives across southern New Mexico and West Texas.
The $5.04 million award, one of SCRTD’s most significant federal competitive grants to date, will fund the launch of the new Las Cruces–El Paso Hybrid Express Bus Service, connecting the region’s substantial population and employment centers with fast, reliable, environmentally sustainable transit.
A limited stop express service connecting Las Cruces, Anthony, Sunland Park Casino, and the El Paso Downtown Transit Center, with a future extension to the El Paso International Airport.
SCRTD will begin procurement of hybrid-electric buses immediately. Service planning, driver training, and operational scheduling are underway, with the Las Cruces–El Paso Express targeted to launch following delivery of the vehicles.

South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) anunció hoy que recibió fondos federales del programa Low-No Emission de la Administración Federal de Tránsito (FTA). Estos fondos ayudarán a mejorar el transporte público en el sur de Nuevo México y el oeste de Texas.
La asignación de 5.04 millones de dólares, una de las más importantes que SCRTD ha recibido, permitirá iniciar el nuevo Servicio Exprés Híbrido Las Cruces–El Paso. Este servicio conectará a más personas con un transporte más rápido, confiable y ambientalmente sostenible. Los fondos también apoyan la expansión del servicio y nuevas oportunidades laborales en la región.
El servicio exprés tendrá paradas limitadas y conectará Las Cruces, Anthony, Sunland Park Casino y el Centro de Tránsito del Centro de El Paso, con planes futuros de extenderse al Aeropuerto Internacional de El Paso.
SCRTD comenzará pronto el proceso de compra de autobuses híbrido-eléctricos. La planificación del servicio, la capacitación del personal y los preparativos operativos ya comenzaron. El Servicio Exprés Las Cruces–El Paso iniciará operaciones después de la entrega de los nuevos vehículos.
